This story is a "future memoir," a writing form that begs further explanation. It was written when the author was nearly eighty years old, while his grandchildren were just two (CJ) and six months (Teddy). It will be several years before the two of you are old enough to create memories that will stay with you for a lifetime. By then, I will not be able to actually have the experience with you that I describe in this book. So, I have created a fantasy memory of a place where I would most love to share such an experience with you. Think of the following story as Grandpa's ode to a time, and a place, to his people, and to his love for them all.
