Gripping the reader at the beginning, Scars and Medals is the journey of Mohanad Alsayed from coming of age during the First Intifada, moving to America, and the riveting search for a lost freedom fighter uncle. Including conversations with his grandmother who lived through the Nakba, this work shows the intergenerational connection to Palestine and surviving in the face of colonization and occupation. His story is a reminder to us all that Palestinians' existence is resistance, and the most courageous act is to live.
