Alfred J. Church (1829-1912) was an English classical scholar, educator, and prolific writer best known for his retellings of Greek and Roman literature for young readers. Educated at King's College London and later serving as a schoolmaster, Church devoted much of his career to making classical texts accessible through lively and readable adaptations. His works-including The Iliad for Boys and Girls, The Odyssey for Boys and Girls, and numerous retellings of Roman history-introduced generations of readers to the stories and heroes of the ancient world.
