Bertone - Pioniere des Autodesigns. The illustrious name of Bertone is associated with over 120 years of car design. Giovanni and Nuccio Bertone, with their large circle of renowned designers, developed a range of futuristic cars as inspirational models for the whole motor industry, and the company name represents many realised designs that were able to prove the their quality in both form and practice in mass production. This success story has been written, evaluated and placed in its proper historical context by someone with a profound knowledge of Bertone - the motoring journalist Roger Gloor.
As a journalist with the Schweizer Automobil Revue and other magazines, Gloor had professional opportunities for many years to visit Bertone, Pininfarina and Ital-Design, the firm founded in 1968 by Bertone's head designer Giugiaro, to analyse the background to their work and to test-drive the latest prototypes. After Ital-Design was taken over by Volkswagen and Pininfarina became part of the Indian Mahindra Group, Bertone ceased operations in 2014. This motivated the author to record his long experience and accumulated knowledge of Bertone's history into a unique and independent documentary volume. Here for the first time are described all design proposals, individual pieces and completed series production models for over 40 automobile brands.
Car aficionados with an interest in body design, product designers and car builders will find here a wealth of previously unknown background information about car design.
All 320 Bertone car models are described and illustrated, with additional tables and an index of names of 1,290 people from 1912 to 2019, making this a unique and informative work.
It is the first catalogue of Bertone's work
