Divine Words of Wisdom for the Soul
A moving spiritual journey, The Sermons of St. Alphonsus Liguori for All Sundays of the Year presents one message for each week of the Christian calendar. Returning again and again to the Four Last Things (Death, Judgment, Heaven, and Hell), St. Alphonsus steadfastly focuses on personal eternal destiny.
Each homily is given in a simple, accessible form, suitable for personal study or to be used as an outline for longer reflection. From the four Sundays of Advent to the twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost-fifty-three Sundays in all-Saint Liguori presents a foundational text of practiced faith and the virtuous Christian life.
Born to Italian nobility in 1696, the young Alphonsus Liguori first studied law. After a legal practice lasting several years, he began religious studies and was ordained in 1726 at the age of 30. His discourses were known to have a strong beneficent influence on many seeking guidance. He composed many spiritual books, and to this day is considered one of the most widely read Catholic authors. He served as Bishop later in life, and was canonized by Pope Gregory XVI in 1839, some 40 years after his death.
Concisely written, these clear and reflective discourses provide guidance and inspiration for those wishing to observe Christian teachings. For teachings on practicing the way of Jesus, one need look no further than this compelling work.
