In May 1957, I was sworn in as a Federal Agent at age twenty-three. The Agency that recruited me was the Office of Naval Intelligence, now the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. This was the beginning of a forty-six-year career that included service as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
Law Enforcement is a low-paying and hazardous job performed by a few but admired by many. Those who elect to put their lives at risk routinely are a unique breed drawn to their profession much as Clergy are called to spread the Word of God.
During my career, I investigated some of the most hideous crimes imaginable, and the details are set forth in my first book, Dancing with Devils. But along the way were some humorous, unique, routine, and exciting incidents that I share with you in this collection.
Some are true, some mostly true, and some a little true; others are the apparent figments of vivid imaginations. YOU BE THE JUDGE!
