John Henry Newman (1801-90) was brought up and educated in the Church of England in the Evangelical tradition, but from 1839 onwards he began to have religious doubts and in 1845 was received into the Roman Catholic Church. This volume of his letters covers a particulary turbulent time in his life.
This volume, like its predecessors, is meticulously edited and annotated and carries forward in a fascinating way Newman's personal religious pilgrimage as well as providing rich resources for a wider understanding of the Oxford Movement. Both publisher and editor are to be congratulated on this latest volume
