The publications of the Hakluyt Society (founded in 1846) made available edited (and sometimes translated) early accounts of exploration. This book, published in 1859, documents the journey of González de Clavijo from Cadiz to Samarkand in 1403, as ambassador of the king of Castille to the court of Timour (Tamerlane).
