The publications of the Hakluyt Society (founded in 1846) made available edited (and sometimes translated) early accounts of exploration. The is the four-volume Victorian English translation of The Commentaries of the Great Afonso Dalboquerque containing accounts of naval campaigns that helped establish Portugal's colonies in India.
